TOG Rating

A duvet’s tog rating is important as it relates to its warmth (but not its weight, which depends on filling).

The higher the tog rating, the warmer the duvet, with 2.5 – 7 tog perfect for spring and summer and 10.5 – 13.5 ideal for autumn and winter.

“TOG” stands for “Thermal Overall Grade”, which is a unit of measurement used to calculate the thermal insulation of a product, usually in the textile industry.  A tog is the rate of thermal resistance from one side of a duvet to the other, possibly measures in watts. Essentially, it tells you how quickly heat travels across the duvet.

TOG Rating for Wholesale Duvets

Duvets come with their own scale of warmth called a ‘TOG’ rating, and a thicker duvet doesn’t necessarily mean warmer. The TOG rating refers to effectiveness of a material’s thermal insulation, using an ascending scale ranging from cool and lightweight low tog duvets at 1.5 and 3 tog, up to the extra cosy 15 tog duvet.

Tog rating denotes the duvet filling’s ability to trap air and therefore provide more warmth, which is something natural filled duvets are able to do with less materials than synthetic fibre duvets. This means natural filling duvets can feel lighter than their synthetic equals.

Duvet fillings come in different weights and warmths, from ultra lightweight 1 tog duvets moving up in cosiness to 15 tog duvets that will keep you super snug in winter.

For convenience, we also offer all season duvets that combine a low and medium tog that can be used together as a thick high tog duvet on particularly cold nights, and separately for warmer evenings.
